This coloring book one of Camera Obscuras is a playful start to merging my work in photography with something new, weird and a little controversial … drum roll … artificial intelligence. While dabbling with what ChatGPT, Midjourney, Photoshop and other digital programs have to offer, ping-ponging between them and following my nose led to these new walking talking friends that have names, appearing as part camera and part thing—some say robot and others say alien. Either way, they are bold and mazy in their lines, seem to have a sense of humor when not looking confused or making sounds, are suited to nearly all ages (those old enough to color) and entrancing once you put pen/ crayon/ pencil to paper. Unleash the colors on these little dudes and don’t be afraid to color them OUTSIDE the lines too. That is the point, to go beyond convention with these camera creatures learning to take pictures of the world themselves instead of being a camera for others, narrative in development.
